Title: Puretracks.. Post by obi-john on Jul 19th, 2004, 3:44pm Yeah ok.. so Sarahs first single "Lucky Me" is available on puretracks. I'm sure this is all record label business but it still bugs me nonetheless. A similiar thing happened with Sarah Harmer's new CD (Greeting Card Aisle was available long before release). Ok I'm going to try my best and make a point out of this. It seems to me to be a fair observation that we here are all fairly huge Sleansters - go to any show in our area - buy any cd we can get our hands on or our wallet lets us afford. I have no doubt here that all the regular members will be picking up the cd on the day of or shortly after release. Point is, we are all Slean supporters. I feel kinda ripped off in way by looking at Puretracks. I mean, the hell if i'm paying .99$ for a digital song that I'll own on a cd in a short few months. I think it would have been fair to at least put it on the site at least in streaming format (*hint* *hint* ;)) This most likely isn't any of Sarah's doing whatsoever - and if it is well hey it's good business I'm sure. But I still think it should have been available to us first. I'm not whining or anything - just making an observation ;) |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by Nikolita on Jul 19th, 2004, 5:34pm but it IS available to us first. available to purchase. I personally don't have a problem with it. If you don't want to pay for the song twice, wait till september. If you just can't wait the 2 months, pay 99 cents for a slice of slean-art that you might have spent on half a cup of coffee at starbucks. I think it's a pretty good deal. If it was available for streaming format free on a website, only a portion of the downloaders will be future purchasers. This way, Sarah gets a cut for her hard work from anyone who wants a preview. Come on people. It's only 99 cents and it's Sarah we're talking about here. ~ng |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by metal2000 on Jul 20th, 2004, 2:20am Of course, the track (which I purchased... first digital track purchase ever) is only available in WMA format, and because of Protective Liscencing, it can only be played in Windows Media Player. Of course, I listen to my music in Winamp, and I listen to mixes... so I had to then burn the track to a CD (wasting a blank CD on one song) and then rip it back into an MP3 so that I can actually listen to it amongst my other songs. It certainly is a bit of a hastle... and do the record companies believe this hastle will convince people to download legally?!? I certainly won't ever consider downloading tracks/albums from Puretracks.com again unless it's a must-have well before an album comes out (in this case over a month before the album comes out by an artist that is one of my favourites). |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by obi-john on Jul 20th, 2004, 1:39pm I suppose I'll wait until it pops up on Kazaa. Considering she gave away free promo copies of her cd at a show - I don't think it's fair to charge. |

Don't let that stop you. Back in 1995 AOL was only open to American and Canadian residents but I still managed to become a member. ;) There are legal ways around things if you look hard enough. ;) |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by Jon on Jul 21st, 2004, 11:18am it's a single people, wake up. it's not a teaser track, or a way to rip people off, it's a single. maybe that idea doesn't transfer well to canada ??? artists always have singles out a good while before the album to promote the album and let people that only may like that song or heard it on the radio, etc the opportunity to buy it. |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by obi-john on Jul 21st, 2004, 12:59pm nah i'm pretty sure "canada" understands the concept of singles :) and i'm the only one complaining about it - so don't accuse everyone else :P sure hell.. if Sarah releases a single (in CD format) I'll make a trip to the mall just to buy it. |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by Kristilyn on Jul 28th, 2004, 1:31pm I'm really not up on the Puretracks thing. I just read an article here: http://cdbaby.org/stories/04/07/28/6248024.html It's an article for up and coming musicians and they were saying how you want to put up free songs on your website, how you want to provide that to your listeners, because if you have the free MP3 track, then people will want to buy the CD. I mean, California leaked out and that's how people have heard it. I would hope that Sarah has a say with her music. But then again, Charlotte Martin has a new CD coming out next month and there's nothing out there for it. However, at VH1.com, she has 30 second clips of all tracks, and somewhere else, you can download Everytime It Rains for free. The article said that you want to gain friends, it's not all about selling, but making a fanbase. I'm sure Sarah has a huge fanbase, but once in a while it'd be nice to give something. I'd be happy with a teaser track. I also agree that it doesn't seem fair for Puretracks to be selling Lucky Me for 99 cents. I mean, I'm a huge music fan and have bought everything that Sarah has put out that I can get my hands on - and I do that for every artist that I love. It's really a sad thing that CDs are becoming obsolete and I think that only the true artists will continue to provide MP3s (free) and CDs for their fans because they know that not everyone is into the iTunes or Puretracks thing. Oh well, I hope this all made sense. I've only heard California, and I'd love to hear Lucky Me, but it just seems like a waste to charge it to the credit card when I'll buy the album in a month and a half. -K |

I would hope that Sarah has a say with her music." never really leaked out considering she gave away free promo cd's of her album. well ok it did leak but it was her doing as I see it. and ya after listening to "lucky me" a few times I wouldn't pay a penny for it. It's so unsarah and so ungood :P |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by Kristilyn on Jul 28th, 2004, 4:26pm That's another thing, too. She's giving out promo copies of the disc, and yet the label is making people pay for one track? I mean, I'm sure somehow, someone could put up all of the tracks on the album on the net, and then Warner wouldn't make a cent through putting up one track on PureTracks. That's not to say that Sarah won't profit when the disc comes out. I mean, I'm one of those people who can listen to all of the tracks online, but I'm such a huge Sarah fan that I'll end up buying the album anyway. And I'm sure there are more people like that anyway. Look at Tori Amos's album Strange Little Girls - it wasn't the best album she made (at least I thought it was close to the worst album), but I still went out and bought it because I'm a fan and I want to support her and her music. -K |

not everyone shares your high principles. If you don't want to pay for it, don't. It's that simple. If you are going to buy the album anyway, wait. ~ng |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by tracesofsilver on Sep 21st, 2004, 10:22am this is kind of a late response, but i agree about "lucky me". it sounded so much better when she played it live with just piano and bass/guitar. now it sounds like something off a pop radio station. the video, too. i REALLY REALLY hope the rest of the album's better! *crosses fingers* |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by alx59 on Sep 21st, 2004, 10:53am Signed "Day one" in front of me ;D : The album is really nice, i'm sure fans will like it but whatever how great the album is, when Sarah performs the songs live, they become even more better! Like California, the album version is very nice for sure and musically arranged perfectly. But Sarah (and her piano only) playing it live makes this song much more stronger emotionnaly. |

Title: Re: Puretracks.. Post by Seraphiel on Sep 21st, 2004, 2:35pm Methinks we need a "Your thoughts on Day One" or similar thread. :) Due to my current lack of money it will be a while before I can get the new album. But I'll be reading what you guys say about it! ;D |
