Sooooo.  I went to to see Leslie Feist play at an in-store acoustic gig and Sarah showed up. :)  She mentioned that the album was mastered today and will have 11 tracks in total and will see release sometime in September.  Sarah will also be playing a show in Toronto on July 24. ;D

why sarah, why?!

oh well....ill just have to take school when it comes....but take heart in the fact that ill have new sarah to ease the pain

11 tracks?  that's it?  What's with all these new records that are almost short enough to be LPs... rrrr...

but I am still looking forward to it nonetheless.   ;D

It doesn't lessen my excitement for the album much, but to know that some tracks got cut is kinda dissapointing. In her blog she said there might be 13 or 14 tracks. I hope there was a good reason for cutting them and it wasn't the record label being difficult or something. I hate it when the suits screw things up for artisits!

Only 11 tracks?  :(   I hate this ever-increasing trend towards fewer tracks per album for the same amount of money.

I'll buy it only because it's Sarah, but I don't like this 'minimalist' trend.

I'm not worried about the album being only 11 tracks. Night Bugs was 11 tracks, and it's an excellent album. Clocked in at only about 45 minutes, if my memory serves me correctly. Sure, it's nice to have a long album, or an album with a lot of songs, but ultimately it doesn't really mean anything. But for those if you who it does matter to, think about the length of each song that she's played at live shows. None of them have been short, of the ones I have heard anyways. Don't worry, she isn't gonna pull a Weezer or Strokes and give us a 30-35 minute album.

Steve Earle's album Jerusalem is only 36 minutes long. I had listened to it about 25 times before I just realized that last night, and I thought my eyes were tricking me at first when I looked at my cd player's display window after the album ended. So ultimately, a great album is a great album, length isn't the be all and end all of it.

I'd agree with you in that less tracks doesn't equal a bad album, but if the artist has more songs ready to be recorded (or have already been recorded) I think they should be kept in rather than delegating them to become b-sides on singles. I'm just aware that certain record company executives have been quoted as saying that albums should have ten or less tracks. It's all about money, not the interests of the artists or their fans IMO.

and in sarah's case, we know she's got PLENTY of great songs waiting to be released.  if she doesn't want us to have bootlegs, how else are we going to hear the songs unless we buy them on an album?

Man, September's going to be one busy month: new Tegan & Sara album, the last Dark Tower book, and now Sarah's new record. I don't have this much money!

yeah she did.  she's a perfectionist and wants us to wait (and pay for) the finished product.
