Title: Which songs describe you?
Post by Seraphiel on Nov 24th, 2003, 1:58pm
I'm curious about which songs (by any artist) you can say "That song could have been written about me!". So... which songs describe you?

Mine include:

Alleluias - Solar Twins
A Poem for Byzantium - Delerium
Gethsemane - Nightwish
Haunted - Evanescence
The Unforgiven - Metallica
Santa Fe - Jon Bon Jovi

Well, it's a tough call.  Different songs speak about different aspects of my life but these songs are ones that I can't help singing to when I play them... more or less because they relate a lot to my feelings in one way or another.

Tracy Chapman - At this point in my life
Natalie Merchant - My Skin
Collective Soul - Compliment
The Verve - Freshmen
Cowboy Junkies - Sad to See the Season Go
Ani DiFranco - 32 Flavours
Madelyniris - Blue Stained Veins

Sarah Slean - Blue Parade, Last Year's War, and I Want to be Brave

(excuse me while I go curl up in a corner and cry now :'()

yes..me too-definitely "count me out" by sarah. i heard it in May-at a toronto show-sarah said she had just finished it in the bathroom during the set, and sang from this little piece of paper. it was so raw and real and i feel so many of the same things she described. i once tried to tell her this but...it doesn't ever come out right.

also
'elsewhere' by sarah mclachlan,
'shameless' by ani difranco,
'heavy' by tegan and sara,
'fast car' by tracy chapman.
lots by radiohead and old U2.

those are all part me, part wishing they were me, part inspiring me.

"sarah said she had just finished it in the bathroom during the set, and sang from this little piece of paper"

hehe its funny how she said the same thing in St. John's.  But perhaps she touched it up or something :)

oh and "no surprises" radiohead

I'd have to say the song that speaks to me the most - or was "written about me" - is "Elsewhere" by Sarah McLachlan. It's about doing what makes you happy and making your own future, as opposed to what your parents WANT you to do in life.

"Kid A" & "Climbing Up The Walls" - Radiohead

Another vote for Sarah McLachlan's "Elsewhere" from me.

Also, Tori Amos's "Crucify", "Girl", and "Silent All These Years"; Sarah Slean's "Weight".

(Hmmm, do we see a theme here? :))

DEFINITELY Book Smart, Street Stupid - Sarah Slean.. and it happens to be my favourite!
I can definitely relate to My Invitation as well... Drowsy contemplation.. mmm
the sarcastic views in Bank Accounts are shared by me as well!
high... of course... any person ever in love can relate to that..
Not Sarah?  Bridge Over Troubled Water!! - Simon and Garfunkle.. at least I like to think so... :)  I try to be there when my friends need me.  St. Patricks's Day - John Mayor... well maybe that's not teh name of it.. it's the one that goes "No one wants to be alone at christmas time".. so true..
Here without you... artist? This one always gets me..just because Jon moved to norway... and you know.. I'm here without him.. all the miles that separate... oh there's way too much to keep going.. the whole REASON I'm so into music is because I can relate to it.. and since music is basically my life, if I were to continue, we'd be here for an eternity! But lastly I'll add "Forgotten Days" or "Svundne Dage" (in norwegian) by Edvard Grieg... that was one of my audition pieces... Grieg is Norwegian.. very fitting... haha.  Newfoundland boys will never again do!!  Maybe I should just move to Europe...
