Title: Re: Book Smart, Street Stupid ... Post by Felicity on May 7th, 2002, 7:16pm FALL ON YOUR KNEES by Anne-Marie McDonald is quite possibly the greatest book i've ever read. I read it a while before oprah reviewed it on her show, so no there's a mad rush for it now. But i totally recommend that one. White Oleander by Jane Fitch (i think) is good also. Anything by John Sandford (murder mystery books with too many twists) is worth the time to read. If you want a cool site that has a collection of recommended books, click here: http://bumble.mushroom.net/bookworms.html That's the site i found Fall On Your Knees on, before Oprah stole it and broadcast it internationally on her show as her own hidden treasure. .:Steph:. |

Title: Re: Book Smart, Street Stupid ... Post by guyfromARGYLEROAD on May 7th, 2002, 8:28pm Ok, Now we're ranting? Lemme lemme!!! Actually, I'm a baaaad book person. I read Dean Koontz. THERE I said it. I like poetry. I admit to reading Slean's lyrics almost 20 times now. I cannot believe I read Naked Lunch or Clockwork Orange, which took me five friggy days *with the GAY dictionary in the back and all* I just read "Of Mice and Men" again. I read BLENDER and ROLLINGSTONE, People... haha I'm such fool. Can I redeem myself? haha ____________________ We stumble into empty freezing streets tossed out like a stray, leaping off welfare balconies, wincing in the cold. I find myself staring in her footsteps, being enticed to dwell a moment in her eyes. running away, she laughs. Never really dares to tell me what she is thinking, I never tell her what I see. we seem inescapable we are locked in our own. because it's everything...it finds you well. we tell lies and scoff at characters in the story of a slowly captured Sunday evening. Just enough to hold in thought till another impromptu escape of this nothing, but more than most. keeping up with the inside of's and the realized and's, ignoring the big but's. making a mad dash for the door, wondering what is reasonable reality...letting go off it all, letting it slip, saying goodbye, pulling away, wondering what will unfold itself... a smile tingles on her face. Oh yeah... I also just read "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "The Umbrella Man" by Roald Dahl. THATS gotta count for something! ??? Goodevening, J |

Title: Re: Book Smart, Street Stupid ... Post by Nikolita on May 11th, 2002, 1:49pm Did I see Nabokov on there??? HE is my ALL-TIME favorite writer!!!! In fact I am reading a collection of his short stories right now! Lolita is an AMAZING novel... I have the first paragraph memorized (as morbid as that may sound) I've read it so many times! I really like the way that he pulls you into his book and makes the reader really feel sorry for Humbert... POWERFUL writing... anyways... yeah that's what I'm reading. nikolita^_^ |

Title: Re: Book Smart, Street Stupid ... Post by Seraphiel on May 19th, 2002, 4:46pm Books... recently I've read "After the Darkest Hour" by Kathleen Brehony, and "Solitude" by Anthony Storr. I'm currently reading "The Making of The Crow" by Bridget Baiss which has to be the best making of book I've read. It covers pretty much everything to do with how this film was made. Tim |
