whoah . . . :o

its been a while since I've read the message boards!! All of a sudden everything around Sarah is flourishing! Isn't it fantastic! She made it into the Vancouver Sun out her in BC and they headlined the article "Misfit Slean Making Gloriously Beautiful Music." The article is fantastic!

I'm hoping that her new cd and her gaining popularity will bring her out to BC so that I can finally see her in concert. (crossing my fingers!) :)

Here's a bit from the article:

She always felt like the class misfit, so she soon found herself singing pop songs with a band. Even in that less austere environment, Slean who was 17, felt misunderstood. Nobody could accept that a person her age could sing with such authority.
"A lot of my music in the beginning was really sad and heavy and complicated lyrically," she says, "I was like, 'I'm an old soul, man, come on.' "

When speaking about her current record deal:
"They approached me and said, "Do you want to do a deal? and I was like 'Are you people nuts?' I don't know what I'm doing"

and the best part of the article: ;D
With this album, Slean has gone from hauling her own equipment through small venues to considering a proposed tour that could have her opening for (her wish list) P.J. Harvey or Rufus Wainwright. Times have changed since she worked at a string of odd jobs that supported her on the way up.
"Oh my Christ, I've had dumb jobs," she laughs. "I've been a bartender for a long time. I've worked at golf courses. I was hands and knees in dirt for a long time. I worked at a cockroach infested stall in a flea market. It was like out of a movie or something. The guy who owned it, would slap your ass all the time and the food was so horribly awful. And he was abusive to his customers. It was a nightmare."
The upside is, now it's all just grist for the songwriting mill.

Must be some protector that changes all suggestive words to something else. . . odd. Strangely enough "ass" was left alone. hmmm....

hum hum... Maybe she could have her opening for Radiohead... ::)

LOL 'thingyroach'. I was wondering what that word was when I was reading your post... but I finally figured it out. derh. ;) Yeah, so you can't say cockadoodle on this board. Needs to remain PG and fun for the whole family.
