Title: What? No US release on Atlantic? Post by Hejira on Mar 21st, 2002, 9:45pm Ok, so I read on another messageboard that Atlantic has decided not to release Night Bugs in the US. Someone posted a quote from Sarah's manager that must have been from a mailing list or something. The message did say that Sarah was given the option of looking for someone else to put out the record in the US. So what does this mean? Has Atlantic dropped her like they dropped Poe? |

Title: Re: What? No US release on Atlantic? Post by Thom_E_Yorke on Mar 22nd, 2002, 5:29am Why Atlantic doesn't release this album in the US ? America is a great business for a record company... ::) *chris, amazed* |

Title: Re: What? No US release on Atlantic? Post by Yaron on Mar 22nd, 2002, 7:27am America is indeed a big market, and pushing a CD (or any product for that matter) to such a big market takes time and money. Perhaps Atlantic decided it is not likely to be profitable to them, or it's not the kind of music they aim to promote at the time. Who knows? ??? |

Title: Re: What? No US release on Atlantic? Post by Seraphiel on Mar 22nd, 2002, 6:09pm It doesn't make any sense not to release it in the US... it's almost as if they don't want it to do well. Maybe they want to see how the sales go in Canada first? *shrugs* I never understood record companies. |

Title: Re: What? No US release on Atlantic? Post by Hejira on Mar 23rd, 2002, 9:49am Well...there was a bit of discussion about this at another messageboard. Basically one person brought up that Sarah was signed to Atlantic pre-Blue Parade...that would have been quite some time ago, when the industry was in another place entirely. It was just post-Lilith, when a lot of female singer songwriter types were getting a boost. A lot has changed since then. Especially at Atlantic...it seems they are less interested in that type of act. Tori Amos, who had been there for over a decade, left after her contract was up and went with Epic instead. Atlantic also dropped people like Poe, Rod Stewart and Anita Baker as well. So it seems Atlantic is looking for a certain type of act that isn't Sarah. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise. I'm a Tori fan and the way she's been promoted the past few years and the nature of her departure made me wonder how Sarah would be treated there. |

Title: Re: What? No US release on Atlantic? Post by Thom_E_Yorke on Mar 25th, 2002, 4:36am ... Well... Who decide if Sarah will be on tour ? Atlantic ? The negativ side of signing at Atlantic seems to be the fact that the album will not be released in many countries. But, if Atlantic helps Sarah on touring in others countries, Sarah will become more famous and then *at this point, I imagine everything... ;)*, Sarah can sign in a big record company like Vivendi-Universal ( with the french boss Jean Marie Messier... yeah, most of us don't like him too... ) but the next album will be released in every country. Quite well, isn't it ? *christophe, aka Steven Spielberg* |
