Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by Seraphiel on Dec 13th, 2001, 12:59pm I'd be interested to know this too... what about yourself, lola? I posted how I did in another thread so I won't repeat myself but I'd love to hear from some of the others. ;D Tim |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by mbw529 on Dec 13th, 2001, 7:43pm Well, personally i found out about sarah here on the internet several years ago. There was an mp3 copy of sarah's "climbing up the walls" radiohead cover floating around the liz phair newsgroup. Some people were claiming it was liz, but i knew better. However, i had yet to hear about sarah so I was not sure who it was. Eventually, some kind soul informed of the true orgins of the track and gave me a link to sarah's website. I then went to the site, ordered the Universe CD and have been hooked ever since... -Matt |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by Nikolita on Dec 13th, 2001, 10:00pm Well . . . my story might not be as interesting . . . but here it is: I bought the Women and Songs 2 cd in 1998 and I fell in love with "I Know." That same year I went through a terrible depression and listened to that song all the time. I went to all the music stores in my city, but none had any of her other albums or could find ways of ordering me one. At this time I didn't have a computer and so the only time I was able to look up Sarah was through her website. I saw that she had many other songs, but I had no way of listening to them. That same year, I had found out that Sarah was touring through bc, doing small university shows . . . I begged and begged my family and friends to drive the 3 hours to go to her show, but none were available that night. Sadly, I waited the next year and a half before I got to university and discovered the better part about napster . . . the download. Overnight I was exstatically overwhelmed by her amazing music!!! Ever since I've been hooked and have made it my personal goal to get everyone else I know (and others) hooked also. I went to a music store downtown vancouver and actually found a "universe" album, but I have yet to get the "Blue Parade" album. although I already have all those songs on my comp, I have had every intention for the last year (but hey, I'm lazy ;)) to order it through the internet. there ya go, thats my story! ^_^ |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by xaisies on Dec 14th, 2001, 12:32pm Myself- I first heard Sarah's music on, of all possible places, the radio. A local Rochester station- 90.5fm WBER. They are not a college station per se. WBER is operated by BOCES which is essentially (though not exactly) a vocational school. They originally started playing "Weight" back in, I want to say, 1998. I was hooked instantly. This year they've been playing "Eliot" and "Playing Cards with Judas". One thing is for sure- I'm glad to have a station like WBER here. And I'm glad that I was introduced to Sarah's music. |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by Hejira on Dec 16th, 2001, 5:25pm I'm from Sarah's hometown and she went to my high school. A few years after she'd graduated I heard that she had a couple of cds out, so I went to check them out because I thought it was kinda cool that someone from our little town was doing so well (signing w/ Atlantic/Warner). I liked her stuff, especially on her first full length album. |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by KerilovesSarah on Jan 4th, 2002, 8:04am Mine is similar to the WBER story ::) I went to college (at SUNY Geneseo, ever heard of it?)with people from Rochester who exclusively listen to WBER... My friend Amber heard Weight on the radio, thought it was Sarah McLaughlan... then Playing Cards with Judas came out, and she called up her friend's boyfriend who was a DJ there (I forget his name now) to find out who it was. We used to lay in bed at night (we were roomates at the time) and sing the entire Blue Parade album before going to sleep, at least 3 nights a week! Our other roomies thought we were insane. We then got Universe, saw her in concert, and the rest is History!! Later Keri :-* |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by crimsun on Jan 5th, 2002, 12:42am I have to credit my sister (who introduced me to an incredible amount of really kickass material). Seems like two or three years ago she mailed me a cassette filled with Sarah Harmer's and Sarah Slean's music...and like the procrastinator I am, I didn't listen to it until relatively recently. Oh well, it's certainly out of the dark now. :) |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by Manderz on Jan 9th, 2002, 9:11pm Mmmyes, well.. my story is quite the devious one... :P Well . My FORMER best friend [read: she's the bane of the world now] happened to get the Women In Songs 2 CD for Christmas... (this being when I was still friends with her... though things were starting to get bad...) and one day... we were in her basement.. and we were just chatting and whatnot, and letting the CD play all the way though... and *gasp* "I Know" came on. I got all quiet and told her to shut up... and I listened to the song the whole way through, then put it on repeat. I was in loooove.... And so, when she wasn't looking and I was about to go home, I put the CD in my bag. *Cackles* I still have it.. (along with everything else she's put out there.)... I happened to find Blue Parade at a used CD store...[horror of horrors, who in hell would want to sell their Sarah CDs!?]... and I trekked all the way downtown to get Universe. Luckily, the EP was easier to find... ;D Well, that's my story. *Shifty-eyed look.. hopes her former best friend doesn't read this board... heehee* ~Mandy |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by CHCollins on Jan 12th, 2002, 11:42am :-* My daughter (a WBER listener) knew I liked "angst" women songwriters like Sarah McL, so after she heard Sarah S on WBER, she bought me "Blue Parade" -- now I'm hooked on "Narcolepsy Weed"... |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by brad on Feb 6th, 2002, 5:16pm Back in the day, I was a really big Our Lady Peace fan, and I saw them play Sarah's version of Julia live. I was instantly entranced. I heard little things about sarah on and off for the next few years until I stumbled across the universe cd at my favorite used record store. I bought it on a whim, and have been hooked ever since. I now write in the arts and entertainment section in my university newspaper, and have heard rumours of sarah coming through saskatoon. I already called covering the story. No one else knew who she was, so I have been lending out my cd's, and getting everyone interested. Brad |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by Findabhair on Mar 5th, 2002, 11:00am I found Sarah's music, like so many other people, from listening to the Women and Songs 2 CD. I thought "I Know" was a great song. So when I was at the record store and I saw her self-titled album I bought it. And I love it. ;D I can't wait until she brings out more music! |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by Thom_E_Yorke on Mar 7th, 2002, 5:46am I'm a very very great fan of Radiohead. I've found the cover of "Climbing Up The Walls" on the website "www.nepasavaler.net" ( the official french Radiohead fan-club ). There was a link to the old sarah slean's website. I heard the two mp3s ( "Twin Moon" and "High" ). Then, I listened "Twin Moon" again and again... This was in 2000. Few months later, I discovered Napster. I've downloaded the whole "Universe EP" and "Blue Parade" ( I bought them this year using the website ). And now, I got a Canadian girlfriend. She bought me the last EP "Sarah Slean". That's it :D *chris* |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by allisonolp on Mar 22nd, 2002, 2:36pm I've been a HUGE Our Lady Peace fan for many years now. I first found out about Sarah when OLP toured Canada in 1998 and played the piano version of their song Julia that she had penned. I bought Universe shortly after and have been hooked ever since. |

Title: Re: I know curiosity killed the cat.... Post by guyfromARGYLEROAD on Apr 29th, 2002, 8:04am I have somewhat told this story before and if you've heard it I appoligize for my repeditive manner, manner, manner, manner. haha I met and worked with Justin Gray (Pop Producer extrodinare) in 2000. Justin produces the likes of SNOW, Sugarjones and Wave. He recorded "Argyle Road" *My band* and was playing it in his car while my man Chris Taylor was along for the ride. Chris heard it and liked it, he has worked with us ever since. Chris belongs to the law-firm sanderson taylor and pitches new music acts and handles talent legally. He has landed MAJOR record deals for such artists as Sarah Slean *wow* Nelly Furtado, SUM41, Wave, Jelleestone, Choclair, Hawksley Workman, (And soon...Argyle Road, haha) But anyways, Chris, having been the one to handle the Slean DEAL knows her manager very well and got me a spot on the Guest list. woohoo. I actually first heard of Slean in the summer of 2000 when I had a convo with Warner Canada's Steve Jordan, he said he had just driven home her warner deal and I should check her out...I am now madly in love...DUH J |
